3 Herniated Discs won't stop me!

This is my injury, disc protrusions combined with severe muscle spasms that took 6 cortisone injections to try to release the muscle (it didn’t work). Followed was weeks of physiotherapy, traction tables and acupuncture. Some stuff helped but to this day it’s still not “fixed”. I hope to share my experience, with this blog and my Facebook page to promote fitness and never giving in.

I was playing volleyball at the time and the fittest I’ve ever been, I was Personal Training and loving it. The injury changed a lot of things in my life and I could no longer do the things I loved. At the end of the year I got married to my wonderful wife and 2 years later we had our first child. Becoming a father meant responsibilities and a need for more money so I decided that I would find a normal 9 - 5 job so I could be home with my family and break my PT hours down to very low part time hours. I stand by that decision to this day but I have missed the Personal Training and helping people. I still helped friends and family whenever I could and would even help strangers at the gym where I was going but it was never the same.

That injury was 7 years ago now and since then I have had ups and downs, I’ve re injured myself trying to go back to volleyball too soon and learnt a lot along the way about dealing with it and adapting my workouts and life to suit. I got complacent, lazy and overweight due to different circumstances but I never let fitness drift away too far.

After moving into our new home I was lucky enough to be able to have enough space in the shed for my own "gym" and had some friends come over and do some workouts with us. My fire and passion returned and talking to my mates Paul and Larry, I realised it was time to get back out there and try to help people once again.

I missed helping people and seeing people improve themselves, talking to me about their results and seeing their lives improve in front of my eyes. This is why I’ve decided to open this site, blog and my services as I hope to help as many people as I can without the usual bad stigma that might come from other areas of the fitness industry. Vital Strength & Fitness is not only a Personal Training facilitator but hopefully a symbol for the community where people can come together and show their support and fitness passion, talk about their wants, needs, issues, goals and other related topics in the members section. If anything I hope to help and inspire those that need a little push and show people that it is VITAL to be stronger and fitter, even if its just enough for a sustainable and happy life. I hope to build this site with other fitness professionals where we can all show and support the broader community.
